Tour description

Day 1: Climbing Spitakasar Mountain

We will meet you at your accommodation in Yerevan and drive to the Geghama Mountains in 4WD cars. The first stop will be Lake Vanki, home to the Vishapakars (Dragon Stones) or Vishaps. These are cigar-shaped basalt stones near the sources of rivers and lakes. Vishaps represented mythological dragons guarding the sources of the waters. We will continue driving through the volcanic mountains of the Geghama range to the foot of Spitakasar (White Mountain), where the hike to the top of Spitakasar will begin. Spitakasar is 3555m high and it’s the second tallest peak in the Geghama Mountains after Azhdahak. From the top, we will have an amazing panoramic view of Lake Sevan. We will descend from the top to our camp on the shore of the Lake Nazeli.

Trekking distance: 10km

Elevation gain/loss: 350m, -450m

Day 2: Climbing Azhdahak Mountain

The morning will start with a breakfast featuring great views of the Lake Nazeli, Nazeli, and Azhdahak volcanoes. After breakfast, we will start climbing to the Azhdahak volcano. On the way to the summit, we will walk through alpine fields full of different flowers and volcanic rocks. The views from the top will amaze you. The mountain offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains and the lake formed in the crater of the mountain. After a lunch break on the summit, we will descend from the top and hike towards Paytasar mountain. Our car will meet us there and bring us back to Yerevan.
