Visa to Nagorno Karabakh / Artsakh
Visitors to Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR) are permitted with the presentation of valid foreign passports or valid similar documents, an entrance visa issued for the NKR, and with clearance from relevant customs authorities.
Entrance visas for NKR are granted by the NKR Permanent Mission to the Republic of Armenia. In rare cases, an entrance visa can be issued at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the NKR, located in the town of Stepanakert.
Visa support is also available to tour groups accredited in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the NKR.
Passport and visas are checked on the Goris-Stepanakert highway, not far from Aghavno (formerlyZabukh). This does not include a customs inspection. In NKR, you will only be asked to show passports and your visa. If you donāt have a letter of invitation, you will have to visit the consule at the RMK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a visa will be promptly issued.
If traveling over-land, consider stopping in at Yerevan to pick up your visa, as it will simplify your crossing into the NKR.
A 21-day visa will cost you 3000 ArmenianĀ Drams ($US7). Ensure you are advised that the consular of the RMK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Armenian Permanent Mission do not operate on weekends. Please ensure you have your visa issued and valid before entering if you intend to arrive on a Saturday or Sunday.
Be aware that entry to Azerbaijan is not allowed if you have a NKR visa on your passport. If you plan to travel on to Azerbaijan, please request that your visa be left outside the passport for this reason when seeking an issue to your visa. Entering NKR from Armenia is considered an act of illegal border crossing in Azerbaijan, making you liable for prosecution under Azeri law.
